Ms. Aileen Kapphahn started piano lessons when she was seven years old. In 1982 she received 3rd place in the Nevada Youth Piano Competition. In 1985, she won the First prize in the Hong Kong Education Chamber Voice Competition. Ms. Kapphahn entered Soochow University, Tai Wan as a Piano major, but later decided to dedicate her music study to Vocal Performance.
After graduating from Soochow University 3rd in her class, she was granted a Scholarship to study Voice with San Francisco Opera Soprano, Gwen Curatilo at California State University, Chico. While she was in CSUC, Ms. Kapphahn taught the undergraduate piano course under Dr. Robert Bowman. She was also active in performing Operas, and Choir.
After receiving her Masters in Vocal Performance from CSUC, Ms. Kapphahn moved to Bloomington, Indiana with her husband and was accepted in the prestigious Indiana University, School of Music majoring in Vocal Performance, Literature and Pedagogy, with a minor in Stage Direction and Music History. Her voice teachers included Metropolitan Opera Sopranos Klara Barlow, Patricia Wise, and Virginia Zeani.
While in Indiana University School of Music, Ms. Kapphahn sung roles as Butterfly in Madama Butterfly, Violetta in La Traviata, Nedda in Pagliacci, Mimi and Musetta in La Boheme. She also had the opportunity to study in master classes under Sherrill Milnes, Dale More (President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing) and Giorgio Tozzi, and coached under Gary Arvin. She also directed the IU Undergraduate Opera Workshop under Maestro Vincent Liotta.
During the years in Indiana, Ms. Kapphahn gave regular solo recitals and Vocal workshops to churches and schools. She was also soloist for United Presbyterian Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition, she maintained a Voice Studio and a Children’s Choir in Bloomington, Indiana.
Residing in Elk Grove, California, Ms. Kapphahn now gives private voice and piano lessons at her studio, Vivace Music Studio.
Ms. Kapphahn currently is preparing for her Doctoral exams at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music. |
